ABOUT

Gillian has been playing the flute and the piccolo for over eighteen years. She began studying with Mary Sullivan through the Mount Royal University Conservatory in Calgary, also enrolling in the Academy Program for Gifted Musicians, and later began studying at the University of Victoria under the direction of Dr. Suzanne Snizek.

Gillian has had substantial performing experience in Victoria and Calgary, including playing with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra, the Calgary Wind Symphone, the Meridiem Wind Ensemble, Cowichan Consort Orchestra, and the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. Gillian has also participated in many chamber ensembles, including the University of Victoria Sonic Lab and High Notes Flute Choir, and premiered numerous student compositions during her time at UVic.

Gillian has been awarded gold in the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and the Outstanding Senior and Adjudicator's Awards at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival. In 2016, she was one of seven finalists in the UVic Concerto Competition, and was nominated to compete for the Musical Arts Scholarship in the same year. Between 2017 and 2018, Gillian won the Cowichan Consort Concerto Competition, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Sidney Classical Orchestra Young Artist Competition. Gillian is proud to have been invited to audition for the Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Akademie in 2018, and most recently performed in the pit orchestra for Beauty and the Beast and Fiddler on the Roof with the Painted Fish Theatre. Her next project is as the assistant musical director for Into the Woods with Untold Stories Theatre.

Gillian completed her Bachelor of Music Performance at UVic in 2017 and is currently living and performing in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta. She currently teaches out of the Chinook School of Music in Marda Loop and studies with Lauren Eselson at the Mount Royal Conservatory.
